OSLO—Helge Aasen will continue acting as chief executive officer for Elkem ASA, stepping into the permanent position effective immediately.
The silicon-based materials supplier announced the permanent appointment Oct. 18. Aasen took over as the interim CEO of Elkem in June following the departure of Michael Koenig (https://www.rubbernews.com/executive-action/elkem-ceo-leaving-company), who stepped down "to pursue other opportunities."
Aasen also served as CEO of Elkem from 2009-19 and has "a broad industrial experience after working in most of the company's different functions for nearly 30 years," Elkem said in a statement.
"On behalf of a unanimous Elkem board, I am pleased that Helge Aasen has agreed to continue as CEO," said Hao Zhigang, chairman of Elkem's board of directors.
"Elkem is currently experiencing exceptional markets and delivering strong results. Helge knows the company better than most and is the best candidate to drive strong performance in the coming period while also delivering on our strategy," he added.
"The company is well-positioned for the future with a strategy for growth driven by operational excellence and increased specialization—stepping up on ESG, digital transformation and battery materials."
