SALEM, Va.—Yokohama Corp. of North America will suspend production at its passenger and light truck tire plant in Salem for at least two weeks amid the COVID-19 pandemic, beginning April 5.
Previously, the tire maker said it was suspending production at its truck tire plant in West Point, Miss., as of March 28, in response to the coronavirus.
Yokohama said it is "committed to the health and safety of plant employees, as well as the community."
The company said it has initiated several preventative measures at all company facilities to help stem the spread of COVID-19.
The tire maker said its supply remains strong and doesn't forecast any disruptions in the supply chain to serve customers.
The plant will be sterilized and decontaminated while production is down, Yokohama said, "to ensure the health and safety of all personnel upon their return.
