ROCHDALE, England—Employees at Trelleborg's Rochdale location have taken part in a trial program by testing company Medusa 19, which has developed a rapid saliva test for COVID-19.
Medusa 19's rapid saliva protein test is a non-invasive procedure and can detect IgM and IgG antibodies in a saliva sample, providing a result within 10 minutes, Trelleborg said in a Nov. 9 release.
The trial was undertaken by 67 Trelleborg volunteers including the senior management team, as well as seven other observers.
Out of the 74 asymptomatic volunteers, 72 came back negative and two returned a positive result.
The individuals, Trelleborg said, were immediately transferred to a private health care unit to receive a government approved PCR test, which confirmed the positive result within 24 hours.
Trelleborg Rochdale is now working to provide facilities so that staff can continue to test themselves on a weekly basis.
