WHITE, Ga.—Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas Inc. said it will reopen its tire manufacturing plant in White on May 3.
The tire maker said production will ramp up gradually, and its plan is to bring back all of its employees on a revised shift schedule. Additional measures, Toyo said, have been implemented to "ensure the health and safety of all of our employees." Those plans are based on guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The plant, which employs approximately 2,000, was idled March 30 in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are pleased to be able to continue to fulfill demand for the Toyo and Nitto brand tires from our loyal customers, many of whom serve as essential service providers during this challenging period," Toyo said in a statement. 'We thank them for their support, which has enabled us to reopen our Georgia plant."
Toyo said its customer service center, logistic team and distribution centers remain open for business.
