COCONUT CREEK, Fla.—An industrial products supplier is taking on the pandemic's challenges head on with innovative thinking and patented sealing technology, to the benefit of the medical industry.

Nova Products Manufacturing Inc. has converted an 30-inch RF (radio frequency) welder into a 40-inch "Puls2TM" heat sealer for manufacturers of medical, COVID-19-related supplies.

The company uses this patented pulse packet sealing engineering with the larger heat sealer, a method that uses low frequency sealing technology. The low frequency sealing method, not limited to dielectric materials like vinyl, provides strong seals on multi-layered synthetic materials, Nova said.

It can be used in the production of PPE, posters, billboard media, roller shades, awning systems and other medical products. Puls2TM also offers high speed sealing and a seamless sealing appearance.

"Converting from one sealing technology to another has never been done before," Nova Products President Glenn Lippman said in a statement. "Typically when a new, improved technology becomes available, customers are stuck with the older method for sealing their materials."

According to Nova, the innovative conversion of an old, non-functioning Cosmos-Kabar RF welder to the larger Puls2TM heat sealer came about after Bryan Kramer, vice president of Boca Raton-Fla.-based Extra Packaging Corp., challenged Nova to discover another method besides RF to seal materials used in heavier-gauge, scrim-supported manufacturing materials.

"Faster and more efficient heat sealing solutions are needed by Extra Packaging to meet increasing global demands for our critical medical supplies," Kramer said.

Extra Packaging manufactures COVID-19 PPE products. In light of the conversion technology, Kramer noted that "increased production capacity enables our company to serve our clients more efficiently."

The New Products blog showcases innovations suppliers are introducing to the rubber industry. It focuses on new materials, machinery, molds, testing equipment, software, and other goods and services that are intended to help manufacturers of finished rubber products. The blog will appear on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
