BETHLEHEM, Penn.—Flexicon Corp. has unveiled its BFC Series Bulk-Out bulk bag discharger, which it claims promotes the flow of free- and non-free-flowing materials, while helping to save labor and cycle time, especially with single-use bags.
According to a news release issued by Flexicon Corp., the new discharger features a cantilevered I-beam and is fitted with an electric hoist and trolley, which eliminates the need for a forklift and helps with the lifting and lowering of bulk bags onto the hopper's four-blade knife.
The need for additional headroom or bag spout interfaces also are eliminated, Flexicon said, because the bag discharger allows for the periphery of the bag bottom to seal against the wide-diameter gasket at the rim of the bag-piercing receiving hopper.
The BFC series promotes the free flow of materials with a side-mounted flow promotion device and Flow-Flexer bag actuator, which presses and releases opposite sides of the bag in timed intervals.
An optional flexible screw conveyor also helps with the transfer of bulk materials and can accommodate material sizes from pellets to sub-micropowders. It won't separate blends, Flexicon said, even as materials pack, cake, seize, smear, fluidize or break apart.
To help reduce dust, the discharger has an optional hollow-rim dust plenum vented to a plant dust collection system.
Optional transitions allow the discharger to be compatible with other mechanical or pneumatic conveying systems and universal flanged outlets for connection to downstream processes.
Flexicon touted the efficiency of the BFC Series, noting that when used with a single use bulk bag that is cut from seam to seam, the new bulk bag discharger can reduce labor and cycle time by as much as 95 percent, when compared to the use of reusable bags. Flexicon also noted that single-use bags may be less expensive and reduce wasted material.
