PAWCATUCK, Conn.—Davis-Standard L.L.C. has upgraded its DS-Blend feedscrew line with the addition of a single screw extruder designed for demanding applications.
The patent-pending feedscrew uses a two-stage approach that compares favorably to the single-stage barrier screw, achieving similar outputs, according to the company. It does so at a lower melt temperature and with reduced energy requirements.
Depending on the end product, the feedscrew can be designed to specific polymers and processes.
The feedscrew, available in sizes from 3/4-inches to 12 inches (19 to 300mm) in diameter with varying L/Ds, is compatible with all Davis-Standard extruders. It also can be fitted to non-company branded extruders, an area where Davis-Standard believes it has significant room for growth.
"This is one of our most versatile and energy-efficient feedscrews to date," John Christiano, Davis-Standard's vice president of technology, said in a news release. "… As with all of our feedscrew designs, we are focused on product line performance, improved outputs, material homogeneity and feedscrew longevity. We are also proud of the fact that we can build a feedscrew for any extruder brand."
Feedscrews designed by Davis-Standard can be used in a range of extrusion and converting applications such as blown film, blow molding, cast film, compounding, elastomer, extrusion coating, fiber, laboratory, pipe, profile and tubing, reclaim, sheet and specialty systems.
