AYER, Mass.—Creative Materials Inc. has introduced a new product that it said can be useful in the wearables market, a two-component 100-percent solids silver-filled conductive epoxy adhesive.
The 30-year-old Ayer-based company has engineered GPC 251A/B2612 for use in such applications as the mounting of connectors, components and sensors. The adhesive is especially useful in wearables that require wash durability of more than 100 wash cycles, according to Creative.
Typical wearable applications include smart jewelry, such as rings, wristbands (including fitness trackers), watches and pins; and body-mounted sensors that monitor and transmit biological data for health care purposes.
According to Creative, GPC 251A/B2612 is available in pre-measured bi-paks and has a 1:1 mix ratio. The epoxy cures at room temperature, ranging up to 120°C, while higher cure temperatures reduce the cure time to as low as 5 minutes, Creative said in a news release.
The company said the new adhesive combines high conductivity, flexibility, high tensile strength and low stress.
Creative Materials, founded in 1987, designs adhesives and conductive inks and coatings for manufacturers of computer electronics, keyboards, cell phones, automobiles and aerospace products, as well as a number of emerging markets, according to the company.
