MUMBAI, India—Birla Carbon, a division of Aditya Birla Group, unveiled two new carbon blacks at Chinaplas 2021, hosted April 13-16 at the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center in Shenzhen, China.
Birla said Raven SF8 Ultra is "an innovative carbon black" for synthetic fiber applications, while Raven 5100 Ultra, considered a piano black, finds its home in premium automotive, electronic and household appliance applications.
"As an innovation-focused carbon black leader, Birla Carbon has been engaging with its customers to understand the challenges in every industry we operate in," said John Davidson, chief sales and marketing officer for Birla Carbon. "Innovation for the plastics industry is an important aspect of our overall strategy."
According to Birla, Raven SF8 has use in fine denier synthetic fibers, where it is easily dispersible with tunable color. It is manufactured in Shanghai at Birla Carbon's Weifang facility. The carbon black has "excellent filterability and spin-ability with minimal yarn breaks and low moisture pick up," according to Birla.
Raven 5100, which comes in bead form, boasts "ultra-high jetness" in a blue hue and works well with resins with good dispersibility.
"The availability of new solutions with Raven SF8 Ultra and Raven 5100 Ultra at Chinaplas 2021 is a result of our continued efforts with our customers," Davidson said. "Our Purpose is to 'Share the Strength,' and we will continue to engage with our customers to find those new solutions that benefit both the customer and the industry."
