TOKYO—German car maker Porsche A.G. has selected versions of Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd.'s Avid GT and Advan Sport 105 performance tires as OE fitments on the 2020 Cayenne premium SUV.
This is the third version of the Cayenne to be equipped with Yokohama tires OE, the Japanese tire maker said, and the Avid GT fitment is the first Yokohama all-season tire selected.
The current version of the four-door hatchback Cayenne was introduced in 2018, featuring a 3-liter, single-turbo V6 that generates 335 hp, powering the all-wheel-drive vehicle to a 0-60 mph acceleration of 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 152 mph.
The Yokohama fitments are:
- Avid GT— 75/45R20 110V front / 305/40R20 112V rear; and 285/40R21 109V front / 315/35R21 111V rear.
- Advan Sport 105—285/35ZR22 (106Y) front / 315/30ZR22 (107Y) rear.
Porsche said this is the first time it's offered staggered front/rear tire sizing on the Cayenne, noting that design feature enhances agility, stability and driving dynamics, while the larger tire size and adjusted air pressures also boost comfort.
Yokohama did not say for which Cayenne trim levels these OE fitments are intended. Yokohama tires delivered to Porsche for OE fitment carry the car maker's "NO" designation on the sidewall.
Yokohama said these OE fitments reflect the company's Grand Design 2020 medium-term management plan, which calls for increased OE business with premium car marques globally.
The Avid GT bears the industry's M+S (mud + snow) marking on its sidewall, indicating it's designed to deliver a safe ride during a sudden snowfall in addition to offering enhanced fuel efficiency and "superior" drivability and safety.
The Advan Sport V105 was developed primarily for use on high-power premium automobiles, Yokohama said, and offers "excellent" driving performance combined with superior comfort and safety characteristics.
The 2019 Cayenne carries a starting MSRP of $65,700, Porsche said.
