KIYOSU, Japan—Prompted by a changing landscape within the automotive industry, Toyoda Gosei has invested about $463,000 in Tryeting Inc., a Japanese startup specializing in the rapid development of materials using artificial intelligence.
"Toyoda Gosei is seeking to achieve greater added value of products with the integration of sensors and other electronic components into the plastic and rubber parts that are its core technologies," the company said in a statement. "For this aim, the development of high functional materials that can accommodate electronics technology is an urgent task."
Created by Nagoya Unisversity, Tryeting provides an AI platform that integrates various types of software, with particular focus on materials informatics, Toyoda Gosei said in a statement. The company applies its informatics techniques, such as AI and big data, to materials, allowing it to significantly speed up the development of new products.
Toyoda Gosei will combine Tryeting's AI technology with its in-house materials knowledge to develop "large numbers of material compounding patterns." Such materials, Toyoda Gosei said, will have superior functionality and accommodate LiDAR2 and other sensors.
