WASHINGTON—A mold error in about 28 Pirelli P Zero replacement tires is not serious enough for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to order a recall, the tire maker said.
Pirelli Tire L.L.C. petitioned NHTSA for a finding of inconsequential noncompliance, according to a notice in the Aug. 28 Federal Register.
The tires, size 265/45R21 104W, were manufactured between July 10 and Aug. 8, 2018. They were marked as having one polyamide ply in their sidewalls, when in fact they had two polyester plies.
The tires comply with all other federal safety standards, and Pirelli is correcting the molds before they are used again, the tire maker told NHTSA.
The notice can be found online.
