DETROIT—For General Motors Co., some suppliers stand above the rest. And when it came time to recognize the best supply partners, rubber industry firms were among them.
Three industry companies—Cooper Standard Automotive Inc., DuPont Mobility & Materials and Faurecia S.E.—were among those receiving the auto maker's highest designation: the Overdrive Award.
Companies receiving the Overdrive Award show "outstanding achievement" in areas such as sustainable value streams, total enterprise cost and profitability, safety, launch excellence, accelerating innovation and nurturing relationships, Cooper Standard noted in a news release.
Supplier of the Year recognition, meanwhile, highlights global suppliers that distinguish themselves by exceeding GM's requirements, the vehicle maker said. This provides GM customers with innovative technologies and among the highest quality in the automotive industry.
Industry companies receiving Supplier of the Year honors included Hella KGaA Hueck & Co., Tenneco Powertrain, Cooper Standard, Dana Inc., Magna International Inc., Denso, ExxonMobil Fuels and Lubricants, Faurecia, Nippon Seiki Co. Ltd. and ZF Friedrichshafen A.G.
Five tire makers—Bridgestone Corp., Goodyear, Hankook Tire & Co., Maxxis International and Group Michelin—also are among 122 companies recognized by GM as 2020 Suppliers of the Year.
"As GM works to achieve a future with zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion, we are proud to have innovative and dedicated suppliers around the world as partners in this mission," Shilpan Amin, GM vice president, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, said in a statement.
"Throughout a challenging year, our suppliers have showed resilience and dedication in working toward our shared goal of long-term sustainability for our planet and the communities we serve while meeting our present needs,"Amin said. "We are pleased with what we've accomplished together in the past year and we are excited by the opportunity that lies ahead."
Supplier of the Year award winners were selected by a global team of GM purchasing, engineering, quality, manufacturing and logistics leaders. Winners were chosen based on performance criteria in product purchasing, global purchasing and manufacturing services, customer care and aftersales, and logistics.
Recipients of Supplier of the Year awards for 2020 represented 16 countries.
