AUBURN HILLS—Continental A.G. has taken a minority ownership stake in Recogni, a U.S.-German startup that is focusing on the development of an artificial intelligence-based chip architecture for object recognition in real time.
The technology being developed by Recogni could play a key role in data processing, particularly as it relates to reading and responding to the data collected from sensors that enable automotive technology such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving.
"Figuratively speaking, the new, highly specialized processors serve as an ultra-economical data booster: with minimal energy consumption, they enable vehicle computers to gain a rapid sense of the vehicle's immediate surroundings, creating the basis for automated and autonomous driving."
Both companies have agreed not to disclose the amount of the holding, Continental said.
