HANOVER, Germany—Continental A.G. has developed a polymer-meshing system that it's using to produce a cut-resistant tread compound for a new line of RDT-Master tires for rigid dump trucks.
Conti said the cut-resistant compound—which involves a specifically designed 3D polymer-linking network—was developed for abrasive environments where tires have to withstand sharp gravel, rocks and stones. The new compound also ensures low abrasion for good mileage.
Conti declined to provide specifics on the mechanics of the "polymer-meshing" system.
The RDT-Master CR with cut-resistant compound complements Continental's growing earthmover-tire portfolio, which includes the RDT-Master ST that offers an intermediate compound for longer load cycles while still offering good abrasion resistance, Conti said.
The RDT-Master also has an open shoulder design for good self-cleaning abilities and enhanced traction.
