CERRITOS, Calif.—Where in the world would we be without rubber?
That's a question that R.D. Abbott Co. Inc. and the ACS Rubber Division set out to answer in a promotional video titled "Rubber: It's Not Just Tires."
The video, which includes footage from Dow Chemical Co., Arlanxeo, 3M Inc. and Hallstar, highlights the impact rubber has on our everyday lives, from the cars we drive and clothes we wear to the medical advances that help us heal.
"The modern world wouldn't work without rubber," Rick Ziebell, a technology fellow for R.D. Abbott, said in a statement. "There wouldn't be any cars, airplanes, electricity, running water, heat, air conditioning, or cell phones without rubber technology. This new video showcases some of rubber's many applications—and in a way that will appeal to younger workers who are seeking exciting and rewarding careers with plenty of opportunities for professional growth."
With all of these areas of impact, the video also highlights something else: The careers that are made possible because of rubber and its continued advances. Viewers are directed to notjusttires.org, a portion of the Rubber Division website that connects students and job seekers to career and training opportunities across the rubber industry.
For many, the video serves as an introduction to the industry, according to Ed Miller, executive director of the Rubber Division. Going forward, the video will be an key part of the organization's Student Outreach Program and will be shared with Rubber Groups to help with those outreach efforts as well.
"We want people to know about the vital role of rubber in our daily lives," Miller said in a statement, "that there are numerous careers available in the industry and that they can be a part of something truly great. The video achieves just that."
