SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—SI Group Inc.'s Weston 705 and 705T liquid phosphite antioxidants have been granted an extension of existing approvals by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
The approvals cover use as food-contact substances in styrene block polymers and repeat-use elastomers under conditions of use A through H with concentration up to 0.5 percent by weight (FCN 1927) effective March 15, according to a company news release.
The approval confirms the toxicologically clean composition of the products and permits them to be applied in the elastomers industry. Both antioxidants are approved for use in food-contact packaging in more than 180 countries, including the U.S., Canada, Europe and China, SI Group said.
The chemistry of the antioxidants protects color and mechanical properties of polymers during the manufacturing, storage and conversion processes, including use in food-contact applications.
