Hankook partners with Rinspeed in micro vehicle project

NEU-ISENBURG, Germany—Hankook Tire has teamed up with Rinspeed on its microSnap concept car, an electric, autonomous vehicle designed with interchangeable bodies and chassis.

Rinspeed's concept vehicle, which debuted at the Geneva International Motor Show 2019, is a micro vehicle system that allows for transport of passengers and goods. The body and the chassis easily can be changed, allowing the vehicle to meet immediate transportation needs. The microSnap features a chassis with an electric drive and variable superstructures, including a robotized change station.

Hankook will supply the micro vehicle with its flagship-UHP Ventus S1 evo line in the size 195/40R17.

"Being the official partner on this visionary micro vehicle proves Hankook's technological know-how on shaping the future of mobility," Han-Jun Kim, president of Hankook Tire Europe, said in a news release.

Hankook is set to launch the the Ventus S1 evo 3 worldwide this spring. The tire, Hankook claims, offers a comfortable sporty ride while maintaining safety in both wet and dry conditions.

In addition to Hankook, Rinspeed has partnered with technology companies for the development of its microSnap vehicle. Among them is FoamPartner, a Swiss polyurethane foam specialist, which supplied several foam solutions for automotive interiors such as headliners, door panels and armrests.

Rinspeed is a Zumikon, Switzerland-based creative think tank and mobility lab for the automotive industry.
