BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Motion Industries Inc. entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Axis New England and Axis New York, an automation and robotics company based in Danvers, Mass.
Details of the acquisition, which is expected to close March 1, were not disclosed.
Axis will continue with a focus on motion control, robotics and machine vision, according to Motion. Its areas of specialty include precision components, electro-mechanical assemblies and fully engineered automation systems. Axis, founded in 1994, serves the Northeast U.S. from its locations in Danvers and Rochester, N.Y.
Axis will operate as part of Motion's automation solutions group, said Motion President Randy Breaux. The acquisition is in line with Motion's strategic intent and complements growth areas of industrial plant floor automation. Axis employees will join Motion in the acquisition.
Motion is a cultural fit and provides growth opportunities, said Axis President Todd Clark.
Motion, a wholly owned subsidiary of Genuine Parts Co., has more than 550 locations including 14 distribution centers throughout North America. It serves customers in the food and beverage, chemical, mining and aggregate and automotive sectors.
