ST. LOUIS—Chemline Inc. released a new abrasion-resistant overcoat that provides additional protection to its standard 2265 direct-to-metal polyurethane coating.

Chemline 2265 provides a puncture resistant membrane that serves a second layer designed to defend the primary pipeline coating, according to a Chemline news release.

The coating can protect against impact and rock damage during push/pull operations in horizontal directionally drilled (HDD) installations such as road and river crossings that require additional ARO to keep the anti-corrosion coating intact, Chemline said. It also maintains flexibility, allowing use on bends, fittings and fabrication during severe handling or rough terrain.

The company said the overcoat is formulated without abrasive fillers, or plasticizers, tar or other hydrocarbon extenders. It has a highly compatible bond to Chemline 2265 and is applied immediately after that product to form a resistant outer shell usually at a final thickness of more than 60 mils.

Chemline 2265 ARO also is formulated to minimize the overspray fog in the application, and has noticeably less odor than conventional coatings as a result, said Chemline.
