LA HABRA, Calif.—Vip Rubber & Plastic Co. has created "Vip University," a new internal training system aimed at offering growth opportunities for its employees.
The program is designed to deliver improvement in manufacturing, customer service and adherence to the AS9100 Revision D quality standards. All employees will have access to various training modules aimed at advancing skills and capabilities.
"We decided to create Vip University as a means to train everyone at the company continuously," Vip President Howard Vipperman said in a statement. "We want to recognize employees who climb the ladder of improved competency."
Vip's Vice President Deena Campana has built a system that tracks employee's progress inside a custom enterprise resource planning application. It's available to all employees, without exception, the company said.
The company added that Vip university presents a centralized way to control and disseminate knowledge across the company. It will distribute diplomas to employees as they move up the competency ladder. Employees will be paid their hourly rate while undertaking additional training and skill enhancement.
Vip's core competencies in manufacturing include rubber extrusion, molded rubber, rubber sheet, plastic extrusion, plastic pipe and fabrication. The university allows for cross-training in each department and extends to areas including forklift drivers and quality personnel. The firm said it is aiming to meet, and exceed, the AS9100 requirements with easy access to view training, and re-training, levels across the company.
