AUBURN HILLS, Mich.—DuPont's Transportation & Advanced Polymers unit has had four products from its portfolio named finalists for R&D 100 Awards.
DuPont said all four innovations meet customer requirements for challenges within their respective industries, including vehicle lightweighting, electrification and the emergence of 5G wireless technology.
"We are very pleased to have four innovative new products recognized as finalists, highlighting our advancements and developments around vehicle lightweighting and advancements in electrification," said Scott Collick, global leader for research and development. "We will continue to work on new innovations as the industry transforms."
The finalists are:
- Betaforce 9050M, a composite bonding adhesive for automotive mass production and multi-material substrates. This adhesive enables significant weight reduction and improves torsional stiffness of the vehicle. Good handling strength after short curing times enables the car manufacturer short tack times, which significantly reduce manufacturing costs.
- Betaseal 7160, a fast-cure glass bonding system for heavy truck windshields improves the process quality of windshield bonding and saves manufacturers from water leakage and necessary repairs. This new product helps eliminate the adhesive tapes required to support the one-component system, man-power and costs.
- Zytel HTNFR42G30NH, a novel bio-based, non-halogenated flame-retardant high-performance polyamide for surface mount connector housing offers a good balance of mechanical and electrical properties, low moisture absorption, excellent moldability, high flow and low mold corrosion. It is ideally suited for SMT connectors which are growing in both consumer electronics and automotive electrification.
- Zytel HTNLTFR52G30NH BL662, a laser-transparent halogen-free nylon resin is designed for very thin parts for automotive electrical systems and consumer electronics. It offers a good flame-retardant rating (V0 at 0.4 mm) while maintaining chemical resistance and dimensional stability performance. It is a very suitable housing material for lithium-ion batteries.
The R&D 100 Awards have been presented by R&D Magazine since 1963 and are designed to celebrate the top 100 revolutionary technologies of the past year. The 2018 winners will be unveiled at the annual black-tie awards dinner on Nov. 16 at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando in Orlando, Fla.
