MILAN—Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. has selected Pirelli P Zero tires as original equipment fitments on the RapidE, the luxury auto maker's first all-electric model due out in 2019.
The RapidE four-door luxury sedan is the first in a series of electric models that Aston Martin is planning to roll out throughout the next decade. Aston Martin has said it expects the 800 hp RapidE to have a full-range battery charge of 200 miles.
The RapidE will roll on two sizes—245/35ZR21 (96Y) XL (front) and 295/30ZR21 (102Y) XL (rear).
Pirelli's engineers worked closely with Aston Martin to ensure that the P Zero tires meet the needs of the vehicle in terms of rolling resistance, noise reduction and overall performance, Pirelli said.
"These characteristics are finely balanced through individually optimized tread patterns to ensure high performance from the rear axle to manage the torque levels of the electric motors, whilst on the front axle, maintain low rolling resistance and precision wet weather performance," Pirelli said.
Additionally, the tires fitted to the Aston Martin vehicles will carry A4E markings on the sidewalls, a move that Pirelli said helps the RapidE maintain its unique characteristics.
Only 155 RapidE models are expected to be produced, according to the British auto maker, which noted that it expected electric vehicles to account for at least 25 percent of its overall sales by 2030.
