NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario—Organizers of the 2018 Rubber Recycling Symposium, scheduled for Niagara Falls Nov. 7-8, have announced the symposium's program.

The Nov. 7 program will begin with a "Global Overview of Sustainability Initiatives in Tire Recycling." A panel of international experts will identify global trends and legislative initiatives that promote active, sustainable environments for tire recycling activities, organizers said.

Following this panel will be "Tire Manufacturing—The Future of Sustainability is Now." The presentation will cover opportunities and challenges in replacing traditional tire manufacturing materials with recycled rubber, reclaimed carbon black, biomass materials and other alternatives.

"Tire Stewardship in Ontario—Transition to Individual Producer Responsibility" will cover the imminent replacement of Ontario Tire Stewardship with Individual Producer Responsibility, with discussions of tire manufacturers' obligations under the new system.

"Searching for Sustainable Markets" will conclude the Nov. 7 program. It will cover the sustainability, market potential and trends for such high-volume recycled rubber markets as tire-derived fuel, rubberized asphalt, athletic fields and rubber-plastic composites.

The Nov. 8 program will begin with a "Tire Industry Project Update," covering current and pending developments in the Tire Industry Project, established in January 2006 under the aegis of the World Business Council on Sustainable Development.

"Tire Stewardship in Ontario—Industry's Response to Individual Producer Responsibility" will discuss tire manufacturers' creation of Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs) in response to the new tire regulations in Ontario. One of the PROs, eTracks Tire Management Systems, is one of the sponsors of the symposium, along with the Tire and Rubber Association of Canada and the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association.

A panel of industry CEOs offering their insights on individual producer responsibility and sustainable markets will conclude the symposium.

The symposium, according to a news release, will offer attendees the opportunity to network with industry leaders and other members of the recycling industry, including processors, transporters, equipment manufacturers, stewardship organizations, government and academia.

Companies interested in exhibiting at the symposium or co-sponsoring it will raise their profiles and enhance their brand portfolio with industry leaders, according to the organizers. Those interesting in exhibiting or sponsorship can contact Michal Majernik at [email protected] or 519-249-0366.
