JURONG ISLAND, Singapore—Mitsui Elastomers Singapore Pte. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui Chemicals Inc., is expanding production capacity of its Tafmer high-performance elastomers at a plant in Jurong Island to meet growing demand for the material.
Without disclosing the investment amount, Mitsui said the project will add 25,000 metric tons of annual capacity to the facility, which already produces 200,000 metric tons of Tafmer each year.
A resin modifier and soft molding material with lightweighting features, Tafmer is used in a range of products including automotive materials, packaging materials, solar battery encapsulants, engineering plastic modifiers and sports shoe midsoles. Global demand for the material continues to rise, with the automotive industry's pursuit of lightweighting as a driving force in that demand, according to Mitsui.
