MADISON, Tenn.—Retread Instead, the U.S. retreading advocacy group, is encouraging those involved in the commercial tire sector to let the U.S. government know it should include commercial truck and bus tires in the list of Chinese goods being considered for a 10 percent import tariff.
The office of the U.S. Trade Representative, which published the 194-page list of targeted Chinese goods on July 10, is seeking public comments and will hold a public hearing Aug. 20-23 on the proposed tariffs, Retread Instead noted.
The USTR is accepting comments on the issue until Aug. 17. To submit a comment, interested parties are directed to go to regulations.gov and use docket number USTR-2018-0026.
Retread Instead is an adhoc initiative of a number of U.S. retreading industry companies, which formed in early 2017 to raise awareness among U.S. senators about the negative effects of low-quality, low-priced Chinese truck tires on the industry, the economy and the environment.
