KALAMAZOO, Mich.—MPE Partners has acquired Alumilite Corp., a formulator and supplier of mold making and casting materials.
The firm will merge Kalamazoo-based Alumilite into its portfolio company Polytek Development Corp., forming a nationally integrated specialty chemicals provider.
Polytek is a leading manufacturer of specialty polymers including polyurethane elastomers and casting resins, silicone, latex, plastisol, thermoplastic elastomers and epoxies.
Mike Faupel will remain as president of Alumilite, which holds a predominant position in the hobby, craft and do-it-yourself markets. MPE believes the synergies and shared capabilities between the two will accelerate the growth of the combined company.
This is the second major addition to Polytek in the last year. In June of 2017 the firm merged with California Medical Innovations to create a combined entity that now spans from coast to coast. Polytek's operates a 75,000-sq.-ft. manufacturing facility in Easton, Pa. CMI's is about the same size on the opposite coast in Pomona, Calif. The combined firm employs about 100 people.
The CMI merger brought thermoplastic elastomers, latex and plastisols to Polytek's portfolio.
