FINDLAY, Ohio—Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is replacing two all-season tires in its Starfire brand portfolio with the Starfire Solarus AS, a "value price-point" line with an expanded size range for passenger cars and crossover vehicles.
The Solarus AS, which will be available in 52 sizes in 14- to 18-inch rim diameters and T, H and V speed ratings, offers an enhanced tread compound and tread profile for all-season traction, Cooper said.
The tire, which replaces the Starfire SF340 and RS-C 2.0 models in the Starfire lineup, is designed to provide a smooth ride with controlled handling and features deep, lateral shoulder grooves to ensure excellent traction throughout the life of the tire.
The new tire reduces overlap in speed ratings within the Starfire line and offers more vehicle fitments than its predecessors, as well as an upgraded 50,000-mile limited tread warranty.
The expanded size range for the Solarus AS—from 185/60R14 82H to 235/45R18 94V—covers 81 percent of the passenger touring market, according to Scott Jamieson, director of product management, vs. 65 percent with the SF340 and RS-C 2.0.
Cooper did not disclose pricing information. The Solarus AS is produced at Cooper's plant in Tupelo, Miss.
