DULUTH, Minn.—Private aircraft producer Cirrus Design Corp. has selected Michelin Aircraft Tire as the original equipment tire provider for its Cirrus propeller-driven and jet-powered airplanes.
Duluth-based Cirrus Aircraft describes itself as the world's No. 1 producer of piston-powered aircraft, producing more than 350 SR Series personal airplanes a year. In 2016 it introduced the Vision Jet, which it said was the world's first single-engine personal jet.
The new contract calls for all Cirrus aircraft to be equipped with Michelin Air bias-ply tires, including the recently developed Air tubeless sizes, Michelin said. Financial terms were not disclosed.
"Michelin is proud to be the tire of choice for Cirrus Aircraft," Robert Sevener, Michelin's global lead for general aviation tires, said. "Cirrus and Michelin are two companies that strive for technological leadership in the world of mobility."
Norwood, N.C.-based Michelin Aircraft Tires said the Air line of bias tires provides a blend of performance and cost for piston, turbo-prop and jet applications.
