New Products: Laser curtain adds safety to Flexicon bulk bag conditioner

BETHLEHEM, Pa.—Flexicon Corp. has released a new Block-Buster Bulk Bag Conditioner with a laser safety curtain that automatically stops operation if the beam is obstructed. The system, Flexicon said, is designed with operator safety in mind, but eliminates the need for safety-hinged doors and interlock switches.

Hydraulic rams and contoured end plates loosen densely packed bulk material within the bags by pressing and releasing opposite sides of the container. Additionally, bags of varying heights can be conditioned by a hydraulically actuated scissor lift with accordion-style dust skirt and turntable, both of which can be adjusted by the operator. The system controller and hydraulic pump also can be mounted on the exterior of the frame or remotely.

Designed to handle the most popular sizes of bulk bags, the unit is available as a stand-alone model or as an integral component of a bulk bag discharger, according to Flexicon. The 87-by-133 inch machine has a depth of 78 inches, requires only electrical power for operation and is ideal for use with bulk bags that contain products such as hygroscopic chemicals, certain types of spice blends and heat-sensitive products.
