AURORA, Ill.—Mitutoyo America Corp. released the newest HR-530 series Rockwell Hardness Testers, including the HR-530 and HR-530L.

The series features electronic controls, which provide capabilities for Rockwell, Rockwell Superficial and Rockwell testing of plastics (A & B) and Light Force Brinell hardness testing, according to a company release.

The color touch screen display shows results of statistical calculations and graphic functions, which can be stored as text data, Rockwell said. The touch panel display can be mounted on top of the tester to save space.

Rockwell said touch screen functions also include:

    • Direct hardness scale selection: The required hardness scale can be selected with the touch panel. The initial test force and loading force are automatically set alongside the selected scale.
    • Curved surface compensation and measurement: It enables curved surface, including round bars and spheres to be tested for hardness as well as flat surfaces.
    • Statistical analysis: The touch screen provides statistical calculation of the maximum value, minimum value, mean value and standard deviation when analyzing multi-point test results.

The HR-530 series also can test the hardness of an inside ring wall without cutting the ring. The minimum diameter is 34 millimeters, but inside diameters as small as 22 millimeters can be tested using an optional 5 millimeter diamond indenter.

The series provides numeric displays of statistical analysis results, including maximum and minimum values, mean value and graphic display of X-R control charts and histograms required for hardness evaluation.

Its nose-type indenter enables measurement on a flat top surface of a specimen and the inside surface of a cylindrical specimen. Continuous testing is possible by pressing the foot switch or start button when testing multiple workpieces with the same height.

For the HR-530, the maximum specimen size is a height of 250 millimeters and depth of 150 millimeters. For the HR-530L, the maximum specimen size is a height of 395 millimeters and depth of 150 millimeters.
