COLOGNE, Germany—Apollo Tyres Ltd. used its appearance at the Tire Cologne Show in Germany to unveil its newest addition to the Vredestein line, an ultra-high performance winter tire called the Vredestein Wintrac Pro.
Apollo said the Wintrac Pro initially will be available in 35 sizes, with plans to extend that to 100 sizes. The tire comes in diameters of 17 inches and higher, and the Indian tire maker said the product offers reliable performance, maximum grip while cornering, short stopping distances on wet roads and great handling, even at high speeds.
The Wintrac Pro is available in speed rating Y, making it able to handle speeds of up to 185 mph for several sizes. The tread features central grooves and shoulder sipes positioned at sharp angles to aid handling on snow, while the horizontal sipes in the central area bolster braking and acceleration, Apollo said. The long, oval-shaped footprint enhances water evacuation from the tread, Apollo said, improving performance on wet surfaces.
Apollo said its testing found that the Wintrac Pro offers an improvement of more than 15 percent in handling on snow and of 10 percent in wet braking over its predecessor, the Wintrac xtreme S. The tire was produced to fit the brand-new Audi A6, BMW 5-series, Volvo V90, Mercedes C-Class as well as Porsche, Tesla and other premium brands.
The tire will be available in North America as well as in Europe.
