BOSTON—Cabot Corp. has completed two expansion projects that will extend its global footprint in black masterbatch and compounds, and increase manufacturing capacity in advanced polymeric materials.
Cabot completed the acquisition of Tech Blend, a North American producer of black masterbatches, which now operates as Cabot Plastics Canada L.P. a wholly owned subsidiary of Cabot, within its global specialty compounds business, according to a company release. Cabot also commissioned a new product line at its manufacturing facility in Pepinster, Belgium.
Cabot's masterbatch and conductive compounds business now includes five manufacturing locations throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America. The expansion brings full service and manufacturing and sales capabilities in the North America region for both global and regional customers, according to the release.
In Pepinster, Belgium, Cabot's specialty compounds business installed a new line to increase capacity and enhance production capabilities for plastic forumlations, including conductive and engineering thermoplastics formulations, the company said. The additional capacity makes the Pepinster site the largest masterbatch and compounds manufacturing facility for the company.
The growth is part of the company's broader strategy to drive application innovation and develop around formulation solutions, Cabot said.
The new production line will enable Cabot to better respond to future growth and demand in automotive and industrial markets, said Denise Myrtoglou.
