LEICESTER, England—Maxxis International U.K. Ltd. has been selected to supply its MA 919 taxi tires as original equipment for London EV Co.'s "zero-emissions capable" electric taxi, the TX, until at least 2023.
The MA 919 has been re-engineered to meet the exact needs of the electric taxi, Maxxis said, noting that the changes have expanded the range, efficiency and durability of the tires.
"Compounds, tread patterns and structures have all been adjusted to provide benefits, such as increased durability and reduced rolling resistance, which will help the hybrid motor make the most of its power output and increase its range," Maxxis said in a statement.
Maxxis Managing Director Derek McMartin said the deal with LEVC "marks a crucial milestone" for the tire maker, in terms of development and collaboration.
With this agreement, Maxxis said its tires will fitments on taxis in about 15 countries across Europe by the end of 2018.
