TIANJIN, China—Cabot Corp.'s carbon black manufacturing facility in Tianjin officially has been certified to the Responsible Care 14001 Environmental Management standard.
Cabot said it is the first chemical company in China to be certified by auditors from the international registrar, British Standards Institution, in accordance with the RC14001. With the recognition, the Tianjin facility satisfied all the requirements of the standard for third-party performance certifications.
Cabot hopes to have all of five of its operating facilities in China achieve the certification by 2019.
Jeff Zhu, president of the Asia-Pacific region for Cabot, noted the company aims to lead China in the implementation of the Responsible Care standards. The recently awarded certification, he added, is proof that the global standards for safety and health are achievable.
"We place a high value on the safe, secure and environmentally responsible development, manufacture and distribution of our products across the globe," Zhu said in a statement. "...The certification of our Tianjin plant proves that this can be done in China, and I hope this will encourage other players to join us to promote Responsible Care in China."
