AMTALA, India—Wacker Metroark Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. has expanded its product portfolio and opened opportunities for growth throughout Southeastern Asia with the addition of a new hydrosilylation plant, located on the company's existing silicone site in Amtala.
The expansion, which raises the firm's production of functional silicone fluids by more than 6,000 metric tons, better positions Wacker to meet growing demands for the silicone additives used in such industries as agricultural, textile and personal care. The additives are used in the rigid and flexible polyurethane foams industries in applications such as interior automotive trim and insulation.
"Our new hydrosilylation plant enables us to address promising new markets where we haven't been represented in India and Southeast Asia until now—for example the market for silicone functional fluids with its many sales opportunities," Soumitra Mukherjee, managing director of Wacker Metroark Chemicals, said in a statement. "In this way, we intend to secure our position as the market and technology leader for silicones in the region and provide a basis for further growth."
