NEW CASTLE, Del.—TA Instruments is debuting the Discovery DMA 850 dynamic mechanical analyzer, a new entry in its line of Discovery series thermal analysis instruments.
The DMA, which measures the viscoelastic mechanical properties of a material under controlled conditions of temperature, environment and mechanical stimulus, has improved sensitivity and accuracy, according to a TA Instruments release.
The DMA 850 features frictionless air bearing supports, providing force sensitivity to 0.1 meganewtons and continuous travel range at 25 millimeters, and a linear optical encoder provides displacement measurement across full travel range and enables displacement control of 5 nanometers.
TA Instruments said the new DirectStrain and intelligent autoranging test controls help with selecting test settings that will be successful when testing over a wide range of temperature and stiffness.
Among the DMA 850's features is a capability to sequence any combination of instrument commands within a single experimental procedure, TA Instruments said. This includes the combination of stress- and strain-control in a single experiment, as well as transient, oscillation and other measurement types in back-to-back steps. The capability may be used to execute a full series of measurements on a single specimen, or apply a mechanical history to a specimen before measurement.
