GOETBORG, Sweden—Scandinavian Enviro Systems A.B. has signed a memorandum of understanding as a first step in establishing a new plant for processing end-of-life tires in Canada.
The 18-month agreement, with Canadian energy-services provider ArticCan Energy Services Inc., calls for a unit designed to process 30,000 metric tons of scrap tires each year.
ArticCan provides services to the oil and gas industry, including the provision of energy efficiency, environmental and sustainability services, according to a statement from Enviro.
"Canada is a very important market for us," Thomas Soerensson, CEO of Enviro said in a statement. "Several leading tyre manufacturers are established in the region and there is also a high presence of other rubber producers as well."
The agreement with Enviro is "a significant milestone in our strategic vision of finding a sustainable solution that allows recovery of valuable materials from end of life tires,"said Anastassia Manuilova, ArticCan vice president of energy and environment.
