HANOVER, Germany—U.S.-based Lehigh Technologies, which produces micronized rubber powder from end-of-life tires is set to commission its first European plant following a series of setbacks.
The unit in Murillo el Fruto, Spain, has delayed its opening several times, but expects it to be commissioned in August, Kedar Murthy, vice president and general manager said.
The facility, which has a capacity of 10,000 metric tons per year, is said to be equipped with a cryogenic turbo mill, designed to produce MRP from end-of-life tires, buffings and post-industrial scrap.
The company, which was acquired by Michelin in October, has another production facility in Tucker, near Atlanta, with nameplate capacity of 64,000 tons annually.
