WASHINGTON—Alliance Rubber Co., the Hot Springs, Ark.-based producer of rubber bands, has petitioned the International Trade Commission for relief against rubber band imports from China, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Alliance, which said it makes the vast majority of the rubber bands manufactured in the U.S., asked for both antidumping and countervailing duties in its petition. The ITC officially instituted an investigation Jan. 30.
"Rubber band manufacturers from Asia are receiving subsidies from their own governments and are artificially lowering their prices in order to root out American competition," said Alliance President Bonnie Spencer Swayze in a press release issued in conjunction with the petition.
