YEOSU, South Korea—Orion Engineered Carbons, a supplier of specialty carbon black, completed construction of a new carbon black production line at its plant in Yeosu.
The line started production Nov. 23 and has begun commercial sales, according to an Orion news release.
The new line will produce specialty carbon black for customer applications such as automotive coatings, engineered plastics, printing inks and adhesives and sealants, Orion CEO Jack Clem said in a statement. It is a step in the company's transition to value-added products for specialty rubber applications.
The Yeosu plant also just completed an upgrade to a technical rubber carbon black production line, which is back in commercial production.
The projects are major components of the consolidation of the Bupyeong plant into the Yeosu facility, Orion said. The transition is on track to be completed by July 2018.
