WASHINGTON—The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has granted the petition of inconsequential noncompliance submitted by Reflex & Allen U.S.A. because of mismarked air brake hoses.
The petition involved approximately 4,500 Reflex & Allen air brake hoses manufactured between Oct. 16, 2015 and Aug. 30, 2016, according to the NHTSA notice published in the Oct. 24 Federal Register.
Under NHTSA regulations, brake hoses are supposed to have government-required markings every six inches. According to the notice, the Reflex & Allen hoses were marked every 6.5 to 11.5 inches.
The hoses are sold to only one original equipment manufacturer, Volvo Trucks North America, which paints over the tubing in painting over the complete chassis, Reflex & Allen told NHTSA.
They meet all federally mandated performance requirements, and they do not compromise the safety of the Volvo trucks, the company said.
