WASHINGTON—Trek Tire L.L.C. is recalling 1,400 Dunlop GrandTrek PT3A tires, size 275/50R21, for lacking the complete Department of Transportation identification marking prefix for radial tires and light vehicles.
The tires were manufactured at the Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. plant in Miyakomojo City, Japan, between Dec. 1 and Dec. 7, 2016, Trek Tire told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Approximately 300 of the tires were sold and installed on vehicles before the noncompliance was discovered, Trek Tire said in the defect report.
The tires bear sidewall markings identifying the manufacturer, size and production date, but lack any DOT prefixes, according to the report.
Dealer Tire L.L.C., which filed the report in tandem with Trek Tire, will notify owners of the recall and replace the tires free of charge. Dealers may contact Trek Tire at 207-200-6967.
