SHROPSHIRE, England—Smithers Rapra Publishing released Smart Rubbers: Synthesis and Applications, a book providing an overview of smart rubbers and research.
"Smart rubbers" are elastomeric materials that respond to external stimuli through a macroscopic output in which the energy of the stimulus is transduced appropriately as a function of external interference. The bulk of these materials generally consist of elastomers or of materials with rubbery behavior and properties, but display a smart response.
Research into smart rubbers has increased dramatically over the last few decades, predominantly due to the growing demand for improved materials for new applications, according to a Smithers release.
The book highlights and discusses examples of the various components involved in smart rubbers to provide paradigmatic information, including different stimuli and applications.
Smart Rubbers: Synthesis and Applications is available from Smithers Rapra's Polymer Books, or from Publication Sales, Smithers Rapra, Shawbury, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY4 4NR, United Kingdom. Email is [email protected]. The book costs $89.
