ANN ARBOR, Mich.—The Center for Automotive Research named former Nissan North America executive Carla Bailo as president and CEO of the Ann Arbor-based organization.
Bailo will replace Jay Baron, the current head of the nonprofit research organization, at an undetermined date this fall, CAR said in a news release. Baron's planned retirement triggered the search for a replacement, said Brian Esterberg, vice president of corporate relations and communications.
Bailo is the assistant vice president for mobility research and business development at Ohio State University, where she worked to expand the university's automotive research and helped coordinate the institution's involvement in the Smart Columbus initiative, which is a $140 million program to bring the future of mobility to central Ohio.
Prior to joining Ohio State in 2015, she served as senior vice president of research and development for Nissan North America, Inc., managing a $500 million budget and 2,500 employees. She also spent 10 years at General Motors Co., working in various product development, program management, quality and product planning positions.
