WEINHEIM, Germany—Freudenberg Sealing Technologies is showcasing some of its latest technology at multiple trade shows this fall.
The firm displayed its Simmerring shaft seal at drinktec 2017 Sept. 11-15 in Weinheim. And the firm also showcased a wide-range of products developed to address e-mobility challenges at the 2017 North American Battery Show from Sept. 12-14 in Novi, Mich.
At drinktec, the firm showed off its Simmerring technology utilizing new materials designed to meet qualifications for the food and beverage industry. The product had not been used in the food industry previously because the PTFE materials used had not received the required applications.
Utilizing its newly approved Quantum PTFE 18245 material, Simmerring shaft seals can be stressed with pressures of up to 10 bar. The other material, Quantum PTFE F1824, allowed the firm to develop what it says is the first dead-space free Simmerring shaft seal. Dubbed the Hygienic BlueSeal, Freudenberg said it meets the standards of hygienic design for use in the food and beverage industry.
The firm said this hygienic shaft seal ring has a forward-mounted lip whose geometry permits no hard-to-clean areas. This prevents the accumulation of bacteria that can lead to process contamination. The Hygienic BlueSeal can be used in applications that develop only low levels of friction. Thanks to targeted adjustments in geometry, applications with pressures under 1 bar are possible.
It also displayed its Simmerring shaft seals made with its Fluoroprene XP45 material. The highly fluorinated material has all the required approvals and certificates under EC 1935/2004, EC 2023/2006 and FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 that are prescribed for contact with foods, Freudenberg said. Seals made with this materials offer broad resistance, combining the strong qualities of EPDM in polar media with high performance characteristics of FKM in nonpolar media.
At the American Battery Show, Freudenberg displayed components designed to assist with thermal management, power efficiency, friction reduction, weight reduction and compact installation spaces among other issues facing automotive makers with regards to e-mobility.
Some of the company's solutions for lithium-ion batteries include its curve gasket, offset seals, O-rings and large format gaskets.
