BRUSSELS—Franco Annunziato, vice president and senior adviser at Bridgestone Europe, has been elected president of the European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers Association by the ETRMA Board of Directors.
Thierry du Granrut of the Syndicat National du Caoutchouc et des Polymeres was elected to a second term as ETRMA vice president, the association said in a Sept. 13 press release.
Both Annunziato and Du Granrut will begin their three-year terms Jan. 1, according to the ETRMA.
This represents the first time an executive of Bridgestone Europe has held the ETRMA presidency, the association said.
On the same day as the announcement of Annunziato's election, the ETRMA released its annual report and 2017 statistical brochure.
The European rubber manufacturing industry employed 361,710 in 2016, up 1 percent from the 358,129 in 2015, according to the statistical brochure.
European tire production totaled 4.94 million metric tons in 2016, up 1 percent from the 4.89 million tons in 2015, the ETRMA said. Production of general rubber goods stood at 2.7 million tons, up 2 percent from 2.68 million tons, the association said.
Some 290 million passenger tires were sold in Europe in 2016, up 5.1 percent from 276 million in 2015, according to the ETRMA. Truck tire sales rose 8.8 percent, to 14 million from 12.9 million, it said.
