CARRICK-ON-SHANNON, Ireland—Freudenberg Group's medical business is expanding its catheter manufacturing facility in Ireland.
The company will be investing about $10.7 million at its Carrick-on-Shannon site, extending it by 45,000 square feet and adding four new ISO Class 7 clean rooms for contract manufacturing of minimally-invasive devices.
In 2010, Freudenberg acquired a 50 percent share in VistaMed, which supplies catheter systems and assembly services, and minimally-invasive devices.
"This latest expansion is evidence of the strong demand for VistaMed products and services," VistaMed Managing Director Patrick Mulholland said in a statement.
The investment follows the construction of an $11.9 million research and development center at the site in October 2016.
Freudenberg said it will be investing worldwide in the development of its footprint in the medical technology industry as part of a long-term strategy.
