CALCUTTA, India—Phillips Carbon Black Ltd. is investing $47 million to increase carbon black capacity at its Palej and Mundra facilities in Gujarat, India, by 80,000 metric tons per year before the end of its fiscal 2019.
The RP SanJlv Goenka Group company is also evaluating plans for a greenfield project with a capacity of 120,000 tons per year, chairman Sanjiv Goenka said in a press statement issued Aug. 10.
In its financial year 2017, ended March 30, PCBL recorded its highest-ever carbon black production of 383,300 tons across four plants in India, including its facilities in Durgapur and Kochi.
During the next couple of years, PCBL expects demand for carbon black in India and overseas to grow at rates of 4-5 percent and 3-4 percent, respectively.
