LYON, France—French scrap tire management company Aliapur is launching an international media campaign to promote the use of its tire shreds as an alternative fuel for the cement industry.
Last year, 38 percent of the 43 million tires collected by Aliapur were burnt for energy recovery, mainly by cement manufacturers in France and abroad.
Cement makers are "very keen on this efficient, abundant and affordable product," Aliapur said in a news release, adding that the material has the same calorific value as coal and 93 percent of petroleum coke.
End of life tire material is an effective substitute for costly fossil fuels, Aliapur said, adding that the quality of French tire shreds was recognized in Europe and beyond.
According to the company, the media campaign will promote its "know-how and experience in the production of used tires shreds with constant and characterized properties, in order to match exactly to customer specifications."
